Which coding language should I start learning first?

This is a most frequent question we’re asked – and there’s no one definite answer. It depends on what you already know, and why you want to learn more!
If you’ve never tried coding before, start with drag+drop to learn the concepts first. Try one of our CS Fundamentals Courses.
If you’ve tried drag+drop programming before and want to try text-based coding, the most widely-used programming language is JavaScript. Try programming in AppLab, followed by Javascript on KhanAcademy or on Codecademy. Or, if you don’t enjoy JavaScript, a great language for first-time coders is Python.
If you want to build something specific, like an Android app, iOS app, a web site, or a database, there are specific languages for each. You can find resources from other organizations outside of Code.org at code.org/learn/beyond to dive into other languages than Javascript.

What is Coding or Programming?
Coding, or programming, is simply the learning of computer language. In order to control computers (or robots or drones), we need to give instructions in a language that they understand – that language is programming language, and the act using that language is coding. We live in an increasingly digital world, and to understand how to code is to understand how this digital world works. Just as we learn science to understand how our nature works, our children must learn coding to understand how technology around us works.
Coding Bee Academy is one of Jakarta’s leading Coding school for 5-17 years old students. We teach Computer Science, Coding / Programming skills and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) in a fun and accessible environment to your child. Learning to Code helps to strengthen academic performance and allow your child to gain qualities like organisational skills and perseverance. Coding is also an invaluable 21st century skill that can translate into a career.
Our proven lessons are innovative and exciting! We impart life-long skills such as creativity, problem solving, computational thinking, and collaboration – skills that will help you child succeed in school and beyond.
In fifteen years we’ll be teaching programming like reading and writing… and wondering why we didn’t d
Why Should Our Children Learn Coding?
Coding isn’t just for computer scientist – just like math is not only for mathematicians
Coding Bee 1
Develop Problem Solving Skills & Computational Thinking
Coding is not just about computers. Your children use critical thinking, logic, mathematics, and science to solve problems.
Coding Bee 2
Creativity Unleashed
We provide tools and skills to make your children’s imagination into reality. This ability to turn imagination into reality helps them gain confidence.
Coding Bee 3
One of the Most Relevant Skills One Can Learn Today
As our world becomes increasingly digital and technology reliant, it is more important than ever to have computer literacy. Children who could control technology (instead of only using it) will have better competitive edge.
Coding Bee 4
Coding Translates to Success in Other Areas
Learning coding supports learning in other areas, such as mathematics, science and reading.
Our Education Partners

We work closely with our education partners to empower more students to be creators of technology through coding lessons. The following are some of the partners we have worked with. If you are a parent or teacher who
My child is 7 years old, Is it too early for my child to learn to code?
It is never too young to start to learn how to code. Our coding lessons are designed to be accessible and fun to children as young as 5 to 17 years old. While our lessons may be simplified for your child, we ensure that we teach accurate Computer Science concepts (that’re taught in university levels). It is like learning mathematics at primary school levels, vs university levels.
How will learning to code help my child’s education
Learning to code helps to develop many important skills that can help a child succeed in school and life beyond. Some of these skills are problem solving skills, critical & logical thinking, creativity, and computational thinking skills. Children also uses mathematics and scientific skills to solve programming problems. In addition to that, we encourage collaboration in our classes, thus helping a child develop his confidence and social skills.
What program do you use to teach coding?
We teach several programming language to your child, depending on his/her age and experience. For beginner we use visual programming language, and will eventually proceed to learn text-based programming language. Either way, our lessons are designed to be fun and accessible to everyone.
What can my child do after learning to code?
Our innovative curriculum guarantees that most of our students will be able to develop a simple software in just about 1 month of lessons. What kind of software depends on your child’s interest and passions. He/she could build games, animations, mobile apps, and any kind of software.
How old does my child need to be to start learning to code?
?Our students’ age ranges
What kind of job can our children do with programming?
Manufacturing, Banking, Medical, Transportation, Telecomunication, IT… in fact any industry that uses technology (which is almost all) will benefits from the knowledge of Coding. You do not need to be a computer scientist or programmer to learn coding, just as you do not need to be a scientist to learn science.
My child already has computer lessons at school, what is the difference?
While most schools computer curriculum teaches students how to use computer software (microsoft office, photoshops, etc), Coding Bee teaches how to build software. We teach students how to build technology instead of only using technology.
Q: I’ve never, ever studied Japanese at all! Can I still attend your school?
Yes, we have classes for absolute beginners but we do ask that you learn how to read and write hiragana and katakana before coming to Japan. If you practice an hour a day this should only take a couple weeks. See our hiragana and katakana pages for a description of how to read and write HIRAGANA and KATAKANA.
Q: I’d like to study Japanese for a year but I’m wondering if you have conversation-only classes?
Sorry, all students at Yoshida learn how to read and write while learning how to speak and listen.
How big are the classes?
The number of students in a class ranges from 10 to 18 students.
Q: What sort of qualifications do teachers at Yoshida have?
Our teachers are typically university-educated teachers with an abundance of experience, both as teachers and in other professions prior to teaching.
Q: What are the nationalities of students at Yoshida?
Our students come from a wide variety of countries, including Vietnam, Sweden, USA,Italy, Mongalia, Sri Lank, China, Spain, France, German, U.K., Canada, Korea, Brazil, Holland, Belgium, Australia, Maxico, Noeway, Finland, Russia, Mexico, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and other(July. 2017.)
Q: Are any of your classes taught in English?
At Yoshida we use the direct method of teaching Japanese so our teachers use only Japanese in all of our classes. However, our office staff can assist you in English when you need help with something outside of school.
Q: Is the textbook available with explanations in other languages?
At the beginning level, the textbook we use has an accompanying grammar explanation written in a wide variety of languages – English, French, German, Russian, Thai, Portuguese, etc. The textbooks used in the intermediate classes likewise have a grammar explanation written in English. Typically you’ll need to take both the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and the International Student University Entrance Exam. You can find more information on these tests on our test preparation page.
Q: I’m interested in attending a Japanese university. Is there someone who can answer my questions?
Several times a year we have a general school meeting to explain about continuing on to a Japanese university or technical school. At the end of each quarter, students talk about their progress with their instructor at which time they have an opportunity to talk about their future plans.
Q: From elementary school through high school I’ve only studied for 11 years. Can I enter a Japanese university?
Technically no, but depending on the country where you studied a variety of university degrees are recognized.
Visas
Q: Can I apply for a student visa at anytime?
The application periods are quarterly — see the long-term page for a complete description.
Q: I don’t know the meaning of a Certificate of Eligibility.
If an applicant wishes to study in Japan, he/she should in principle first obtain a Certificate of Eligibility. A Certificate of Eligibility is issued before a visa application by a regional immigration authority under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice as evidence that the foreign national meets the conditions for landing in Japan, including the requirements that the activity in which the foreign national wishes to engage in Japan at the time of the landing examination is not fraudulent and is an activity that comes under a status of residence (excluding Temporary Visitor Status) stipulated in the Immigration Control Act. (Application for the Certificate of Eligibility by Yoshida Institute is allowed.)
A foreign national in possession of a Certificate of Eligibility can get a visa issued more easily at an embassy or consulate within the standard processing period (five working days from the day after the date of the acceptance of application). (However, issuance of the visa is not guaranteed.) Furthermore, by presenting the certificate at the time of the examination for the landing, the examination procedures will be smoothly carried.
Q: Who can apply for a Working Holiday Visa?
Citizens from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Poland, Taiwan, Slovakia, Austria, Korea and Hong Kong, who are between the ages of 18 and 30 inclusive, and citizens from Australia, Canada and Korea who are between the ages of 18 and 25 inclusive, can apply for a Working Holiday Visa(except in those cases where the competent authorities of Japan agree to extend the limitation of age to 30 years). There are other conditions too, which vary from country to country. These conditions also change over time. Please contact your local Japanese Embassy or Consulate for more information.
Q: I’m Swiss and I’d like to study Japanese for six months. Do I need to apply for a student visa?
Students from England, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Mexico, and Lichtenstein are allowed to study in Japan for six months on a tourist visa. Upon arrival you’ll receive a 90-day visa which can be extended another 90 days during your stay in Japan.
Q: I’m Swedish and I’d like to study Japanese for two years. Do I need my guarantor to apply for a student visa?
In the case of you, the guarantor isn’t necessary. Use CSN if you are Swedish. CSN är den myndighet som administrerar det svenska studiestödet, det vill säga lån och bidrag för studier.
Q: I’m Thai and I’m wondering what are the necessary documents needed to apply for a student visa?
In addition to the documents listed on our admissions page, students from non-OECD countries need to provide documents listing the name of the person that will be supporting them financially during their time in Japan. As this varies from country to country and often depends upon current conditions, it’s best if you contact us directly for more information.
Q: I’m Russian and I’m wondering what are the necessary documents needed to apply for a student visa?
Students from Russia are required to submit not only proof of financial support. However, the Japanese government has imposed additional requirements for students from your country. You must typically submit documents verifying the status of their sponsor, typically a parent, during their time in Japan. If you’re not sure whether these requirements affect you or not, please contact us directly.
Q: If my attendance or grades are bad what happens to my visa?
If your attendance is lower than 80% or if you’re failing your class, you won’t be able to renew your visa.
Q: I have a working visa. Is it possible to change to a student visa?
Yes, it’s possible. Please contact us for more details.
Q: Is there an age limit for getting a student visa?
There’s no strict limit but if you’re middle-aged or older your reason for studying Japanese and your school history will be more carefully evaluated.

Not in the traditional classroom sense. You are not going to be sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher (mostly). We will talk to you about your interests and goals, and then will recommend materials for you to try. This could be learning material we’ve developed teaching elsewhere. It could be a MOOC on Coursera or edX: why reinvent the wheel, right? Or it could be a project you just want to get done, and we’ll figure out what you need to pick up to complete the project with just-in-time learning: now that is authentic problem-based learning.
As you go through the material on your own, we’ll always be ready to answer your questions. We will check in on your progress regularly. We might suggest extensions or further challenges to stretch your learning. And we will continually encourage you to reflect on your learning.
We will run occasional enrichment classes free for Tinkercademy X members, but the bulk of your learning will be self-directed.

Although no experience with Tynker or programming is required, we recommend hiring instructors with general technology expertise because they can create additional collaborative activities for students to customize your camp. Engineering undergraduate students make excellent instructors.
Why should I add programming to my camp?
With initiatives like the Hour of Code, programming is gaining recognition as a crucial 21st century skill. More and more parents see learning to program as a priority for their children. Programming is uniquely suited to a camp environment because it involves both learning and creating, meaning that kids love it and so do their parents!

At the end of camp, campers still have access to their projects and can continue creating.

Any room with desks and chairs can be used as a Tynker classroom. You need wireless internet access and a computer (laptop, desktop or netbook) with a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) for every child. Tynker does the rest. Tynker camps are not suited for tablets at this time. However, kids can use the Tynker app for tablets to make games using what they’ve learned at camp.

Almost immediately. Tynker is cloud-based, so there’s nothing to download or install. Once you have an camp administrator account, you can easily add instructors and campers and set up classrooms. It takes less than ten minutes to add all your students and assign lessons.
Can I combine children at different levels and ages?
Tynker’s online lessons allow kids to progress independently at their own pace. However, we recommend grouping kids by age to encourage collaboration and fun.

Which Visa do I need and what does the Visa application process look like?
Like snowflakes (and your personality) all visa application processes are unique. Once you enroll in one of our programs, we will then be able to assist you with the details of the visa application process.
Where do I apply for my visa?
To apply for your visa, you will need to submit your application to the Chinese Visa Office in your area or to the Consulate-General which holds consular jurisdiction over the state where you reside.

Do you provide scholarships or grants?
We do not provide scholarships ourselves. If you are a student, we advise you to ask the career center at your university for available scholarships. Many universities provide scholarships and they will be able to provide you with the most detailed information.

Chinese Classes
What if I have studied Chinese before?

We like to keep things cozy. Our classes have an average of 3-4 students, with a maximum of eight students per class.

Hutong School classes last 50 minutes, followed by a 10-minute break (or about 1/3 the length of an average Xi Jinping speech).
I want to do the HSK-test. Can I do this at Hutong School?
Yes, our Shanghai branch is a registered HSK center, so you can register and take the exam at our school. For all other branches, we help you to register and take the exam at the nearest exam center. You will furthermore be trained to take HSK exam at your best: we offer HSK preparation classes in all our branches.
My English isn’t very good; can I have class in a different language?
Our beginner Chinese classes will take place in English and Chinese. Therefore, knowledge of the English language will be very helpful. As your Chinese level progresses, less and less English will be used in your classes.
Accommodation
What do the apartments look like?
Take a look at some pictures of our apartments: http://www.hutong-school.com/accommodation
All of our apartments have a kitchen, a living room with TV and DVD-player and a Western-style bathroom. In our apartments, you will have your own bedroom, but share the apartment with 2-3 other students from Hutong School.
Is it possible to have a private apartment?
Used to living the high life in the penthouse suite? On request we do offer private apartments. There will be an additional monthly fee on top of the normal program price.
How far are the apartments from the school/internship company?
We will try our best to place you in an apartment that will be the most convenient for you. From most of our apartments, you should be able to get to the school via public transportation in 30 minutes or less (not including time spent petting cats along the way).
Can I stay with a Chinese family?
Want to get a taste of Chinese family life without (or before) marrying into one? Just let us know and we’ll help get you set up with a local family wherever your program is taking place!
Is it possible to attend your program without accommodation?
It is possible to take part in one of our programs without accommodation. Please contact us for further details about the price for this option. We recommend finding alternative accommodation if you choose this option; unlike Amsterdam in the ’70s, camping in Chinese public parks in very illegal.
Cultural Activities
How often does Hutong School organize activities?
Don’t worry, you won’t have to spend your nights alone on YouTube. We organize business and cultural activities for students 2-3 times per week. All activities are designed to help you experience Chinese culture as well as get to know other students from Hutong School. Curious about what we’re up to these days? Take a look at our program calendar to see our upcoming events!
When are the activities?
Our activities are held either in the evenings or on the weekends so that it is possible for everyone to participate.
Is there a cost for the activities?
Many of the activities that take place at Hutong School will be free of charge. However, there will be a small charge for other activities that have an entrance fee or traveling fees.

Tai chi isn’t just a way for people to keep healthy, it is China’s oldest form of kungfu and can actually be used for self defense. These lessons show how Tai Chi and Chinese medicine are related.
Chinese Movie Nights
Once a month we organize a Chinese movie night to introduce Chinese cinematic masterpieces to our students. One of our teachers will also give a short introduction to aid students’ understanding of the movie.
Traditional Chinese Board Games
Since ancient times, there have been three main board games in China: weiqi, xiangqi, and mahjong. You’ll master them in no time.
Excursion outside of BeijingChinese Traditional Handicrafts

Chinese entertainment
Depending on the season, Hutong School organizes various activites that are just for fun. Students can experience various forms of modern Chinese entertainment in order to better understand Chinese life or culture, have fun, and also to give students a chance to meet each other outside of the classroom. Examples are: trips to Chinese hot-springs, skiing, or laser-tag, among other things.
Business Lectures About China
Hutong School regularly invites businessmen, journalists, diplomats and scholars to talk about their experiences concerning various China related topics.
Our lectures have two goals:
To offer our students a wide variety of opinions and topics related to China to stimulate critical thinking and enrich their China experience
To offer our students extra networking opportunities; these lectures are open to the public and attract a diverse audience of Chinese and foreign people from all walks of life
Our lectures are usually preceded and followed by social networking, including drinks and snacks.

Charity Activities In China
Charity in China
At Hutong School, we encourage you to get involved in different philanthropic activities. We offer the following charity activities:
Giving back to the Community
At Hutong School, we encourage our students to get involved in different philanthropic activities around Beijing and Shanghai. Whether it is teaching English at a school for migrant workers’ children, planting a tree, or visiting an NGO, we hope students will get involved with the local people and learn more about Chinese culture.
Teaching English at a migrant school
ngo in china
Schools for children of migrant workers can be found all across the outskirts of Beijing. They are privately organised and funded by migrant workers trying to provide their children with the most basic education. Unlike other state schools, these institutions are not recognised by the government and do not qualify for state support. Conditions at these schools are far from ideal due to a lack of funding.
To help ease these pressures, Hutong School organizes teaching excursions to one of these schools in the north of Beijing every other Sunday. Although the main goal of these excursions is to teach the children basic English, participants quickly realise that there is much more to this trip than just the study of grammar and vocabulary. What may start out as an interesting way to explore Beijing beyond the city centre often leads to a genuinely heart-warming experience where children and teachers alike join in with games, songs and dances… in English if possible. The real experience lies in discovering how much one can give with just a little bit of good intention.

Franchise FAQs
About Franchises – Franchise FAQs – Franchise Investment – Franchise Steps – More Info
FRANCHISE FAQ’s
1. Do I need experience to operate a BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchise?
No. We provide a complete training program including marketing, operations, accounting and technology training.
2. Can I operate a BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchise and still keep my regular full-time job?
You are required to commit no less than 30 hours per week to your BRICKS 4 KIDZ® business. However, if you do not have the flexibility to run classes, in-school field trips, camps and birthday parties, then you will have to hire a manager who must attend our training week in St. Augustine, FL.
3. Why should I open a BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchise instead of trying it on my own?
The BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchise management team has developed a successful business model. We have honed our operations to give our franchisees the best possible opportunity for success. Why risk it on your own when you can leverage our expertise and experience?
Furthermore, because of the overwhelming response to our franchise opportunity, you can count on a BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchise opening soon in your town or city. So why have the competition when you can be the only one operating such a business? In all probability, if you operate as a BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchisee, the probability of someone else competing against you is low. On the other hand, if you operate on your own, the probability of BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchisee competing against you is very high!
If you operate on your own you miss out on all the new developments that you would enjoy as a BRICKS4 KIDZ® franchisee, not to mention the national advertising, which will happen eventually with BRICKS 4 KIDZ®.
4. Will BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchise help me with marketing?
Yes. We will provide a proven marketing package specifically for your territory, as well as production and strategic assistance with your on-going local marketing efforts.
5. What makes a successful BRICKS 4 KIDZ® Franchisee?
There are three elements to any successful franchise relationship: a great Concept, a good location/territory and a great operator. We have the first element, and we’ll help you find the second. The real key is always the operator. As a BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchisee, YOU make all the difference. A Franchisee that is willing to follow a proven system, and is committed to excellence, consistency, and constant, positive communication with his/her students and community will always have great success.
6. Do you provide financing?
BRICKS 4 KIDZ® does not provide direct financing. However, we will assist you in obtaining financing through our third-party contacts or a financial institution of your choice.
How soon can I be in business once I have executed a franchise agreement and located a mutually accepted site?
You can be open for business generally within 30 to 60 days after your training has been completed.
Okay, I’m ready to open my first BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchise. What’s next?
What’s the next step?
Your BRICKS 4 KIDZ® franchise journey begins with the REQUEST FOR INFORMATION. Please complete the form right now and click “SUBMIT.” Someone from our team will contact you shortly to help you get started with the franchise appr International
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: The pace in Heguru classes is too fast and difficult to follow.
A1: At our early childhood education center – Heguru, the pace of the class is carefully varied. We emphasize speed in a Heguru classroom to fully utilize the right brain. To develop it, rhythm training such as flash cards et cetera requires high speed. Years of research shows we can stimulate our brains through such training and ultimately encourage quick thinking and an enhanced mental capacity.
Q2: My child is fidgety and it makes me concerned.
A2: All children are restless by nature. A child easily loses interest in one thing, and moves to another. However, a child can absorb information even if he/she is not paying attention to the object. Although a child does not seem to be concentrating, he/she is able to read content accurately. It is the responsibility of parents to choose a good learning environment or early childhood education center for children for them to enjoy and pay more attention during lessons.
Q3: We are a full-time working couple and don’t have time to look after our child’s learning at home. Will it be all right?
A3: It is important for your child to learn the Heguru method if you find it hard to educate him or her at home. Since the contents of our classes are very intense, your child can produce excellent results even if he/she only attends the class once a week. Even better, the results produced can be remarkable if parents can take the time to guide their children at home even if the time spent is very brief.
Q4: The achievement level Heguru students are quite high. I am afraid my child cannot keep up with them.
A4: All the parents feel the same way. The only reason your child may be behind in a class is because the others have had a head start. Therefore, you should praise your child for each accomplishment in the activities conducted. In 2 months or so, the child will get used to it and enjoy learning at our early childhood education center, Heguru.
Q5: I honestly don’t expect too much from my child. I don’t think a high-standard education, such as the one at Heguru is necessary.
A5: We understand early childhood education may seem strange for the parents, especially we start training infant from 6 months old. Some parents would rather raise their children in a more relaxed manner. On the other hand, various studies have concluded that such education bridges the huge gap in cognitive skills when a child becomes older. We encourage parents to open their horizons to increasing their child’s potential as they grow and enjoy nurturing the learning foundation for them just like sowing seeds in a field.
Q6: I cannot help scolding my child.
A6: Reprimanding your children is not always the effective solution because the question centers on how you can help improve your child. There has to some extent of “disciplining” but avoid from using harsh words because by doing that, you may discourage the child from progressing and can cause him or her to eventually lose self-confidence.Is this suitable for my 11-year-old?
It really depends on the individual. If your child needs to be pushed to learn, then this programme is not for them. Our programme requires self-directed learners who take responsibility for their own learning, and who are proactive in asking for help when they need it. Generally, students older than 13-years-old are better suited for the programme.
Am I too old for your program?
Never! Our mix of members leans heavier towards students, but we welcome adult lifelong learners too. It’s never too late to pick up coding.
What is the minimum length of subscripti
You can sign up for a minimum of one month, and you can suspend your membership anytime (minimum of one month at a time) if you are headed overseas or just need to take a break.
Price is $214 per month
For a low monthly fee of $214 per month (inclusive of GST), you have access to:
Our open learning space on Saturdays, 10am – 4pm, to get in-person instruction, guidance, and mentorship while self-studying
Online support when Tinkercademy X is not in session
Maker equipment and a library of electronic modules that can be loaned to participants to build projects
Course materials that have been tried-and-tested in the courses we teach at schools and large companies

Boosted With Salient

Salient app will change the way we stay connected and interact. Meet Kara, a young aspiring writer who’s been using Salient to improve her skills every day.

If you wish to make an apple

pie from scratch, you must first

invent the universe.

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth.

Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar. The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli.

You may obtain a GIRO form from the centre to facilitate direct monthly deductions from your child’s Child Development Account. However, GIRO payment is not applicable for the first month, as the bank application will take time.
How about uniforms? How many sets should I purchase?
The MY World uniform consists of a comfortable dry-fit round collar T-shirt and shorts, featuring our cheery signature colours. We believe it is important for your child to be comfortable, as he/she will be wearing it all day.
We generally recommend that parents purchase 4 sets of uniforms for each child. You may choose to purchase more according to your child’s needs.
What qualifications do your teachers possess?
Because we believe every child deserves a Champion, we groom our teachers to be that Champion your child deserves.
Our teachers are professional educators who are certified or currently pursuing certificates in Infant Care and Early Childhood Education. We meet the requirements set out by ECDA, and this is an important criteria in our being appointed an Anchor Operator.
We carefully select our staff and equip them through ongoing training and skills upgrading. In addition, our experienced principals and senior teachers are constantly mentoring their staff both in the skills arena and in the ethos of MY World Preschool.
Do you provide transport to and from the centre?
We do not provide any transport as most of the children live near our centres. We strongly recommend that you choose a centre near your home or workplace as this reduces stress for both parent and child.
I am considering to enrol my child in MY World Preschool. Can I visit a centre?
You are most welcome to visit any of our MY World Preschool centres! Take time to observe the environment of the centre, and feel free to interact with our principal and teachers. Make a decision only when you are assured that it will be the right choice for your child.
To arrange for a visit, contact the individual centre here.
For general enquiries, contact us at 6839 8188 or email ccadmin@myworld.org.sg
How long will it take before I am allocated a place?
After you have registered your interest using the Child Care Link, vacancies are dependent on the waiting lists of individual centres. We will definitely inform you of the good news once there is a vacancy for your child.
What happens when I am allocated a place at MY World Preschool?
The individual centre will contact and inform you once there is an available vacancy. Once offered a place, you need to accept it within seven days. If you don’t, the place will be forfeited and given to the next person on the waiting list. However, you will remain on the waiting list of the other centres you had registered for.
Once I am allocated a place, what do I need to bring along for registration?
Please bring along these items (originals) to the centre of your choice:
For Singaporeans
Child’s birth certificate
Child’s health booklet
3 photographs of child
NRICs of both parents
Bank statement of Child Development Account (If you wish to pay using the CDA Account)
Birth certificate of relevant sibling’s (If you wish to pay using the CDA Account and the account belongs to a sibling)
Photocopy of NRIC (front and back), particulars and recent passport photo (original) of authorised persons (if authorising someone else to pick up your child, e.g. grandparent or baby-sitter
For PRs/Foreigners
Child’s birth certificate
Child’s entry/re-entry permit
Child’s dependant pass
3 photographs of child
Work permits of both parents (Or work permit of one parent and dependant pass of the other parent, as the case might be)
Photocopy of NRIC (front and back), particulars and recent passport photo (original) of authorised persons (if authorising someone else to pick up your child, e.g. grandparent or baby-sitter
Parents may be required to provide other relevant documents upon request.
I like the centre but I am not sure if my child will. Can I let my child “try out” a centre to see if he/she can get used to it?
To help your child transit into MY World Preschool, you can let him/her try it out for a two-week trial period.
During this time, fees will apply but will be charged on a pro-rated basis. Should you change your mind about enrolling your child within the two-week period, you can withdraw your child without the usual withdrawal notice period of one calendar month.
The government subsidy will also be applied on a pro-rated basis. However, according to ECDA regulations, for the subsidy to apply, the two-week trial period must fall within the same month. For example, you should arrange for your trial period to be in the last two weeks of September rather than the last week in September and the first week of October.
To help your child transit into child care, read this helpful guide: Guidelines for First-timers

The waitlist deposit will be counted towards your first month school fees when your child begins his or her classes; should you withdraw your child before the chosen start date at the school, the waitlist fee will be forfieted. The registration fee is non-refundable.
A parent might also choose an interview with the Principal and/ or class teachers, the aim of which is to develop a relationship with the school that is fundamental to the continued involvement of the parent in his child’s education.
WAIT LIST
Rosemary Hall sometimes experiences attrition between enrolment and the start of school. Therefore, after classes are filled children may still be accepted on a wait list. If a space is not currently available, your child will be placed in queue on the wait list. Should an opening occur, all the applicants in the waiting pool are reviewed and an applicant is selected for the space. The priority runs as follows: Siblings of currently or previously enrolled students are offered the first spaces; Qualified new applicants are offered the remaining spaces on a first come first serve basis.
ORIENTATION
Orientation Week will be the first week of School during which uniform purchases, school tours and curriculum outlines will be handed out.
During this time, parents familiarize themselves with the daily program and schedule, pick up and drop off points etc.
Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the orientation with their child, who will also have an opportunity to meet his or her new classmates and familiarize himself or herself with the new environment.
*We aim to provide healthy balanced diets for our children and are particular about MSG, salt and sugar content. If you have a dietary concern, please highlight this to our Admissions staff. Our children occasionally receive “Goody Bags” at birthday parties and events. If you are concerned about receiving candy in your child’s bag, please inform us and we will remove it from the bag before she receives it. Thank you.

About Us
Great Starts I & II (2-3 yo)
Great StartsWee Care’s Great Starts programme seeks to give children an enriching immersion experience in Mandarin. Classes are mapped onto Wee Care’s highly successful Bright Starts programme and incorporate fun, exciting, hands-on and play-based activities in Open Learning, Life Skills, Numicon Math and Science, with the added distinctive feature of Mandarin as the language of instruction. Children continue to enjoy English lessons in Phonics and Literacy, but the main emphasis is always on understanding, thinking and speaking in Mandarin. There are many opportunities for purposeful play and social interactions with peers.
BENEFITS
Children who attend Great Starts are fully immersed in a Mandarin-speaking environment. This has been shown to increase their confidence in speaking and using Mandarin in natural contexts. In addition, receptive comprehension of Mandarin discourse, spoken in the context of dialogue, develops as the teacher seeks to establish shared meanings through meaningful learning and experience-based activities with her students.
Children who are typically exposed to a monolingual environment benefit from this opportunity to engage with their peers and caring adults in a stimulating, non-threatening and nurturing Mandarin setting. Research has consistently demonstrated that bilingual children exercise more flexible thinking processes when making sense of the world around them. Great Starts is a means thus to enhance thinking skills in the more complex globalised world that we all live in.
ACTIVITIES and FORMAT
The Great Starts programme is designed to give children a choice between going to school two, three, four or five times a week (daily). Each session lasts three (3) hours and comprises the following:
Welcome and Music TimeIMG_3382
Classroom Instruction (1 hour)
Open (Experiential) Learning (1 hour)
Snack, Circle, Nature and/or Sensorimotor Time
Closing and Goodbye
In terms of content, the daily subjects are:
Mondays: Language Arts (in English) and Numicon Mathematics (in Mandarin)
Tuesdays: Open Learning (in English), Letters & Phonics (in English)
Wednesdays: Life Skills (in Mandarin) and Mandarin
Thursdays: Open Learning (in Mandarin) and Mandarin
Fridays: Language Arts (in English) and Science (in Mandarin)
The Great Starts programme is available only on weekdays with lessons running from 2pm to 5pm.
PARENT / CAREGIVER INVOLVEMENT
Children who are attending school for the first time without the accompaniment of their parents and caregivers may have separation anxiety. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to co-operate with Wee Care educators to assure their children and to help them to settle down in school.
A Profile of Progress, showing some of the lessons taught and more importantly, the different categories of the individual child’s development, will be made available to all parents at the end of each semester.
CLASS SIZE and EDUCATOR-CHILD RATIO
Each class can accommodate a maximum of fifteen (15) children only, who are led and taught by three (3) Wee Care educators.
ADMISSION and FEES
Children are admitted into the Great Starts programme at the start of each 10-week or 12-week term through the completion of a Parent-Toddler PlayGroup Programme, a parent-accompanied Holiday Programme, a Primer Programme or a personal admission consultation. Such an admission procedure will enable parents and children to get to know the Wee Care teachers and the school environment prior to starting school. The impact of separation anxiety will also be reduced. Therefore, direct and/or mid-term admissions are given on a case-by-case basis only.
Programme fees (incl. of GST) and the corresponding deposit (excl. of GST) are as follows:
Deposits are refunded according to the terms and conditions of registration.

Head Starts
Wee Care’s Head Starts I and Head Starts II classes are for children between the ages of 5 years (K1) and 6 years (K2) respectively. These classes run from 8.30am to 12.30pm or 11am to 3pm daily, and build upon the foundation of skills developed and learnt in the Bright Starts levels by incorporating the already excellent academic, play, Life Skills and The Project Approach curriculum with even more enriching and mind-stretching ventures like fund-raising (for charities), mini business efforts and extra field trips!

Cleaning-Up Day
Wee Care’s Bright Starts Programme is the second step in a child’s progression towards more formal and structured learning. Besides incorporating the playful learning activities of the Parent-Child PlayGroup Programme, Bright Starts establishes more concrete learning in pre-academics during structured classroom times.
In addition, the children are given the opportunity to acquire skills for future independence, such as simple cleaning-up exercises. They also learn to manage their emotions and relate to their peers in positive, co-operative and constructive ways.
BENEFITS
Children in the Bright Starts programme have shown the ability to adapt quickly and be independent in a more structured learning environment.
Go, go, go!
Even at the tender age of 2 years, some of them have been able to encourage and assist their peers during the course of their interactions.
Furthermore, the speech skills of the children are further refined, and the world of abstract, creative and symbolic ideas is explored through activities in early reading, writing and numeracy.

Parent-Infant PlayGroup (4-12 mo)
Infant FrontWee Care’s Parent-Infant PlayGroup is a unique programme that allows babies to learn about themselves and the world in which they live. The programme’s main philosophy is taken from the views of Vygotsky and Bruner, both of whom emphasised the importance of adult input in increasing a child’s level of development.
Parents at Wee Care are encouraged to participate in the learning activities in each playgroup session as an integral part of a triangular model where “partnerships in learning” are reinforced. In turn, our team of specialist educators facilitate in the development of the social bonds that are required for motivated, directed and purposeful play.
BENEFITS
The Parent-Infant PlayGroup programme increases the child’s ability to relate socially with others. Babies who come to us early have been observed to start babbling at a peer by the age of 6 months. By 2 years, many of them appear to be more self-confident and articulate.
In addition, the children also seem to have a greater ability to focus on learning tasks, as well as process the physical and social environments in a more organised manner.
ACTIVITIES and FORMAT
The Parent-Infant PlayGroup programme encourages babies to learn through structured activities via exploration, manipulation and discovery. A weekly theme provides the backdrop for learning goals and activities that vary from week to week.
Typically, a Parent-Infant PlayGroup session involves the following:
Welcome and Music Time
Stations for Structured Learning including creative play and thinking skills to provide the child with individual attention in a group setting
Soft-Play and Multi-Sensory Learning for sensorimotor development
Snack and Circle Time for acquiring social scripts and interaction skills
Closing and Goodbye
Outdoor Play and Nature Time are available according to the theme for the week and when the weather permits.
The length of each Parent-Infant PlayGroup session is one (1) hour.

Parent-Toddler PlayGroup (13-24 mo)
DSC00436Wee Care’s Parent-Toddler PlayGroup builds on the foundations established in the Parent-Infant PlayGroup programme. For new children, it is an opportunity to explore, discover and learn about themselves and the world in which they live. Parents at Wee Care are encouraged to participate in the learning activities each week as the importance of adult input in increasing a child’s level of development continues to be emphasised. In turn, our team of specialist educators facilitate in the development of the social bonds that are required for motivated, directed and purposeful play.
BENEFITS
The Parent-Toddler PlayGroup programme continues to build on the child’s ability to relate socially with others. Toddlers are encouraged to interact with their peers and by 2 years old, many of them appear to be more self-confident and articulate. They also seem to be able to focus on learning tasks better, and to process the physical and social environments in a more organised fashion. All these will prepare and enable them to take the big step forward to the next level of learning in the Bright Starts programme. This is a preschool programme that helps young children to develop pre-academic abilities, social skills, emotional intelligence and independence.
ACTIVITIES and FORMAT
The Parent-Toddler PlayGroup programme encourages toddlers to learn through structured play activities via exploration, manipulation and discovery. A weekly theme provides the backdrop for learning goals and activities that vary from week to week. Typically, a Parent-Toddler PlayGroup session involves the following:

More and more research studies show that children who are bilingual have more flexible brains with added resources for multi-tasking and problem-solving. In particular, they have a more efficient cognitive system that allows them to attend to important information and ignore the less important. Ellen Bialystok, a Distinguished Research Professor of Psychology at York University, has discovered that bilingual people show symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease five or six years later than monolinguals. In other words, bilingual brains tend to age slower and cope with cognitive deterioration better.
In Singapore, parents are often very concerned about the academic outcomes of learning Mandarin. Will my child be able to cope with Chinese in primary school? Will he/she do well enough in the Primary School Leaving Examination (or PSLE) eventually?
At Wee Care, we want to challenge these ideas and say that becoming bilingual is more than just good grades in an examination. It is about a way of thinking and a way of expressing one’s self. To this end, our new Chinese Speech & Drama programme has the following objectives:
*To equip children with the necessary listening and speaking skills to become good communicators in Mandarin;
*To cultivate an interest in and love for the Chinese language and culture;
*To encourage the children to become more confident socially as they recognize that they are able to interact with teachers (and people) from a different cultural and linguistic heritage;
*To develop a more flexible way of thinking and talking, especially when this contributes to learning how to focus on important information, multi-task and solve problems.
Chinese Speech & Drama is conducted for children from various age-groups between 2 to 6 years old in the various Wee Care centres across Singapore at different times and on different days. Please call the respective centre that is closest to you for more information. We look forward to welcoming you and your child soon!

In Creative Art, we take the stance that children are narrating their ideas whilst producing pieces of “art”. Invariably, in the artistic process, there is “repetition” and “boundedness”; children begin to “do”before they begin to “make”, and there is exploratory play with materials and forms prior to intentional exploration of form and creation of meaning.
At the same time, we listen when the children tell us stories about their visual creations. Some label and some describe what they are doing/making, especially when the teacher gets time with them individually. Importantly, the children are given the chance to engage in preliminary “first-attempt”, “second attempt” and “master”pieces. The best pieces are kept in a portfolio that are returned to the children at the end of the term. The best pieces are exhibited at some stage, and we respect “gallery visitors” and their words of encouragement! Some of the incidental goals that the teachers work on in the course of each session include: fine-motor strength, dexterity and coordination; attention-span, eye-hand coordination including visual-motor imitation skills and conceptual thought.
Creative Art 1-01Creative Art 2-01We have noticed that through this programme, the children develop the confidence to “try” especially when it does not look perfect or right in the beginning. Many of them are taught to care for the materials well and to handle them responsibly. Things can get quite messy in art, but that, we believe, is just part of the fun! Ultimately, we want to cultivate children who understand that they can express themselves through visual media. It has been said that being a “multiliterate” person in this technological century requires one to use a visual grammar. What better way to start learning to do this – in a fun and non-threatening manner – than in preschool?

Every lesson in this programme incorporates a Creative Movement with a Fundamental Movement Skill. In other words, every week, the children in this programme learn a Motor Skill, plus engage in movements with a more creative, dramatic, imaginary flair. For instance, we may focus on the joint topics of Bouncing and Emotions. Can you bounce a ball happily, sadly, fearfully…?
We know that some children have kinesthetic styles of learning that they can express to the fullest in these lessons. But importantly too, the children become capable at the physical level and they build their self-esteem and a strong sense of self in the process. At the same time, they start to work with each other in a cooperative manner, like sitting in a circle to bounce a ball to each other (a.k.a. following the rules of the game) and/or picking up a ball and passing it to a peer who has dropped it. They cultivate better attention, as when they have to focus on the teacher to observe what the technique to practise and master is. The creative aspects of movement can help a child realize that human communication and expression can take other forms, not just visual or auditory ones.
This is one of the biggest benefits to the Creative Movement class. Human experience extends beyond mere words and if we can build this understanding in our children, they are far more likely to develop into appreciative, empathetic and sensitive individuals in the long-term. We certainly hope you agree!

In Creative Writing, our aim is to show the children that writing is a form of making meaning. In other words, writing is not just about good grammar or syntax (although these are important and must always be addressed); it is also a means for the writer (in this case, the child) to convey meaning to the reader (i.e. you!). To reach this goal, the teacher engages the children in discussions about the topic each week, before highlighting key vocabulary and stylistic devices, as well as providing a focal point (such as a story, craft or video) around which the children’s imaginations and writing can evolve and develop. For instance, in Week 3 of this term, the children made a Duck puppet out of a brown paper bag. They then wrote a short narrative about the Duck. The overall topic for this term is All about the Pond, and the children are being guided to tackle writing in a number of different genres in many sub-topics. Some of these genres, with examples, are as follows:
Writing has the benefit of enhancing fine-motor skills of strength and dexterity, plus draw on linguistic resources of vocabulary and thought to frame text that is meaningful and coherent. One of the methods that the teacher is using is “shared writing”. In shared writing, children dictate the story and the teacher writes it down. Then, the teacher reads the story back to the child. Shared writing is an excellent way of Creative writing2demonstrating the links between oral and written language. Vukelich & Christie (2009) say that it helps children realize that what they say can be written in print and that print can be read as oral language. In this way, writing is a full language experience. We are really excited at the possibilities that this programme holds for our children in the Head Starts I and II years. Importantly, we want them to know that writing is a skill that can last them a lifetime, and it is not just about getting good grades or a tick on the page.

Chinese Speech & Drama
ACTIVITIES and FORMAT
The Bright Starts programme is designed to give children a choice between going to school two, three, four or five times a week (daily). Each session lasts three (3) hours and comprises the following:
Welcome and Music Time

Snack, Circle, Nature and/or Sensorimotor Time

Welcome and Music Time
Stations for Structured Learning, including imaginative play and thinking skills to provide the child with individual attention in a group setting
Soft-Play and Multi-Sensory Learning for sensorimotor development
Snack and Circle Time for acquiring social scripts and interaction skills
Closing and Goodbye
Outdoor Play and Nature Time are available according to the theme for the week and when the weather permits.
The length of each Parent-Toddler PlayGroup session is one-and-a-half (1½) hours.
PARENT / CAREGIVER INVOLVEMENT
Parent involvement is essential in line with the Wee Care belief that adults can scaffold and increase a child’s level of development. Involvement is limited to one adult (usually either the father or the mother) per child. Each class can only accommodate a maximum of eight (8) pairs of parents and toddlers who are led and facilitated by two Wee Care educators.
ADMISSION and FEES
Children are admitted into the Parent-Toddler PlayGroup programme at the start of each term. Mid-term admissions are possible only when there are vacancies. A one-time trial session may be requested for S$58. Programme fees (incl. of GST) and the corresponding deposit (excl. of GST) are as follows:

Enrolment Information
Enrol now for 2018 and beyond
With the Cornish College Council’s strategic decision to have two primary classes and three secondary classes at each level, parents are encouraged to enrol their children now for 2018 and beyond.
Please contact us to ask about limited vacancies as these are subject to change at short notice.
To begin enrolling your children please download and complete the Application for Enrolment form in our Enrolment Booklet below (click here to access the form). Please read this in conjunction with the Cornish College Terms of Business, which are included in the booklet.
If you have any questions in relation to enrolment or our educational offering, please contact the office on 9781 9000 or email us at admissions@cornishcollege.vic.edu.au.
Information for all parents
When an application is lodged, a non-refundable application fee of $100 is payable to the College. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged, and your child’s name added to the enrolment waiting list for entry in the year and level nominated. Please note that submission of this form does not guarantee a place at the College.
An interview with the Principal (or delegate) of the College is arranged approximately 24 to 18 months before entry, which the parents or guardian and student attend, bringing with them current school reports (if appropriate). The purpose of this interview is for the College to learn about your child and his/her needs so that we can ensure an appropriate program is available. If a place is available, we may make an offer of enrolment. Please note that we may decline to make an offer without providing a reason. Although Cornish College is an open entry College, children are tested prior to commencement (usually excludes ELC and Prep) to ensure that the best possible program can be provided.
Please note that admission to Cornish College is subject to availability of places, gender balance, satisfactory interview and assessment, the College’s capacity to provide an appropriate program for the child, and acceptance of Cornish College Terms of Business in force at the time. As it may not be possible to accommodate all applicants, the waiting list will be ordered according to date of application but with priority given to the siblings of current students, children of current staff members and children of past students. A small number of places will be kept for award at the Principal’s discretion.
Information for ELC parents
For our Early Learning Centre, a child’s age at the time the Application for Enrolment Form is lodged may be used when making offers of places.
At Cornish College, we see the time in our ELC as the start of a journey through to Year 12. To avoid the ELC being used as a short term education option, a non-refundable pre-payment of $1,000 of the Prep fees will be required prior to entry to ELC. This amount will be taken off the first term account when the child enters Prep. This applies only to children who have no other siblings currently attending the College.
The ELC is a registered childcare provider for ELC4 children. This is a means tested benefit and, if you are eligible, you can claim through Centrelink. We can provide a statement of how many hours your child has attended ELC4 per week, and a receipt for the fees you pay, to support your claim.
Please follow this link to the relevant claim form: Child Care Benefit for registered care form.
Enrolment process
If you would like to enrol your child, the enrolment process is:
Complete and return the Application for Enrolment and Application Fee.
Book in and come for a tour of the school – for a list of upcoming tours click here.

Standardised testing will be required for all new students joining the College at Year 5, Year 7 and above, with diagnostic testing required at other year levels (excluding ELC and Prep) to ensure that the best possible program can be provided.

Discovery Center’s Pre-School Program is open to children 2 years to 6 years old.
Instruction
Playing trainsDiscovery Center follows a western approach to teaching young children. Throughout the morning, a combination of child-directed and teacher-directed activities are held. The focal word is activities as children in Discovery Center learn through doing, not through watching.
During “learning center time” the children progress through different learning centers with a teacher at each center to guide them. Records are kept on the progress of each child in each center. The materials themselves are the key to teaching the child. The teacher helps the children re-start previous activities, guides them in new activities and records their progress.
Sorting Colors For teacher-directed activities, the children are grouped according to age in groups of 8 to 12. One teacher and two assistant teachers work with each group. Activities include music, dance, art, story, drama, yoga, physical education, science, social awareness and cooking. There are 3 to 4 group activities per day.
Snack time
Cooking classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays wherein the teachers show the children how to make sandwiches, fruit salads, vegetable soup, cake, cookies and muffins. The children, under the guidance of their teachers, prepare the snacks.
Snacks on Tuesdays and Thursdays are prepared by the teaching staff: i.e., popcorn, savory biscuits, peanut butter on crackers, fruit, etc. Juice, milk or bottled water is served with all snacks. Bottled water is available throughout the morning.

What is the difference between Core Programs and Holiday Camps?
Our core programs offer a progressive learning roadmap for students to incrementally build on programming concepts and skills from term to term. Our core programs facilitate paced learning with weekly classes and building a solid programming foundation towards advanced programming languages.
We offer introductory and standalone courses in our holiday camps for students looking for a quick introduction to programming. Holiday courses are offered in 3-day, one-week and two-week immersive camps for students looking to try their hand at coding.

FAQs Registration
Q: When can students register?
A: Students can register anytime between terms for the next term intake. Let’s say students want to start on April –June term, they can register anytime between January – March. Please give some time to take the placement tests so that we can prepare everything before student enters EfeX.
Q: How do we register?
A: Please come to our nearest branch and fill up the registration form. After that, the child must take an English placement test before entering the course. The result of the test will determine what level the child will be. The grade level in school does not necessarily reflect the grade level in EfeX. Our leveling is based on American standards. A child who is in 5th grade in regular school may be placed in level 3 (grade 3 in U.S.) at EfeX.
